Feb 11, 2015 · This Marlin 39a Mountie model rifle was in great original condition, but it had the typical fat and crudely shaped stock and forend that was typical of newer Marlin rifles. The owner wished to make it a custom rifle with more of a traditional look to it. A beautiful piece of Claro Walnut was used to make the new stock and forend.
The Marlin is not quite as smooth, but is more forgiving of being worked slowly. The Henry has a straight stock, while the Marlin has a more traditional "bent" stock (there's probably a term for this but I don't remember it offhand). The Henry is a bit shorter, it's not really uncomfortable to shoot but I prefer the size of the Marlin. The Mountie and 39M have 20 inch barrels and straight stocks. The standard 39A have 24 inch barrels and pistol grip stocks. 39A Mountie has the same barrel markings as the standard 39A Starting in 1957 the barrel was marked Golden 39A Mountie. The 39M had the rounded lever for a few years like the Mountie and then switched to the squared lever.
Dec 04, 2020 · Nice! Love those Marlin's! Have two of their lever actions in 39A and the Golden 39 Mountie. Both have weaver k4 scopes on them. I have fired the model 60's but do not own one. My semi auto is the Ruger 10/22. Maybe I should invest in a nice model 60 if I see one at a gun show, or gun store. Here is a nice stock job on a marlin 39 from Rocky Tippy. The factory stocks shown in comparison to the Semi Crescent pistolgrip butt and early style forearm. Rocky's done this the smart way, that is to say, fit and finish the stock BEFORE finishing the metal work. Rocky's efforts made a clubby swollen piece into an elegent rifle. I'm lucky, having the 39a my dad bought for me back in 1952, and I just found a pristine 1957 vintage 39m late last year, and paid a lot, lot more than 150. Marlin ''Golden 39A Mountie'' in 22cal. The barrel measures 20'' with ''Microgroove'' rifling and open sights with hooded front brass bead. The straight walnut stock ends in a solid butt plate. Dec 04, 2017 · Mine 30-30 was made in 1970 back when Marlin was still making very top quality rifles. And my 39-A was made in 1978. It is a fine little rifle and made very well with good wood. As of late like a lot of gun makers they have reduced the quality of wood and other parts on guns. The Marlin stocks for example are not the quality wood of years past. 03
